Happy Birthday Messi!
Every year this day comes and I am left at a loss of words. Lionel Messi, my love for you cannot be expressed in words. You’re my world, my everything.
You made me love the beautiful game even more than I already did. You’re my hero and idol, my ray of hope and my light of day.
It only feels like yesterday that you were a long haired, shy 19 year old on verge to conquer the world with your magic and now here you are at 27.
I love how you continue to be so humble while enjoying the perks of being the best player in the world. You are a ray of hope to not only me but for a million more out there, we’re all so blessed to have someone like you.
I do hope you will someday have the World Cup in your trophy cabinet because you really deserve it. I hope all of your dreams will come true and you will continue to be so great.
I don’t know what it is about you that fills me with joy and hope but I am glad. I’m so grateful that I got the pleasure of knowing someone like you.
As words cannot reciprocate my feelings, I will just make this as short as I can. Lionel Messi, thank you for changing my life, for making me smile when the entire world failed, for helping me when I really needed it and for just being YOU.
You have graced the world with your wonderful presence and we are more than blessed to have someone like you.
I love you Lionel Messi, good luck for the future!

I am just sitting here and watching you all talk about great young talents. By saying young talents, we mean 22 year old footballers. Isn’t that funny? A 22 year old Messi got slayed by everyone and accepted as a ‘failure’ because he didn’t win games single-handedly under Maradona’s crazy…

Spain attended their own funeral dressed in black. They came not to mourn their passing but to commemorate their life but there will be no evading the melancholy, nor the recriminations, and this was no celebration. It felt like it would be a game to endure not to enjoy. Spain departed Brazil to whistles and boos from Brazilian supporters who have been against them throughout this tournament and there were tears too, but they departed with a win. Goals from David Villa, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata defeated Australia, prevented Spain from finishing bottom of Group B, and momentarily recalled a time when they were world champions, not the first team out. But there is no going back.
